History of Sandettie

Sandettie was designed and built for her first owner in early 1964. She was completed and launched on May 20th of that year. She was designed as a "racer/cruiser" which was a respected class of boat in Europe at the time. Original construction contracts and invoices are available for inspection.
Sandettie raced around the British Isles and Europe from 1964 though to 1967, participating in the Fastnet and the Santander, among others. Her respectible places, in these and other races, are RORC recorded in Sandettie's historical log.
Sometime during 1967, Sandettie also cruised the Baltic Sea. In 1968, the original owner sailed her to Malta, his retirement home. She remained there in his care until 1982, making trips to Libya, Tunisia, Italy and Greece. During that period she also participated in the Middle Sea Race around Sicily.
Sandettie was purchased by her second owner in 1982. With her new owners she made summer voyages to Western Greece in 1982 and 1983.
In February 1984, preparations started for an extensive cruise which took Sandettie across the central Agean Sea to the island of Rhodes, the southern Turkish coastline and Cyprus. After wintering in Cyprus, Sandettie later proceeded westward around the Turkish coast to the northern Agean, crossing northeast to southwest, into the gulf containing Athens, through the Corinth Canal and the Gulf of Corinth to the Ionian again. 1987 was spent cruising the eastern coast of Spain to Gibraltar, through the Straights of Gibraltar and then 600 miles south to the Canary Islands. In November of 1985, Sandettie departed Gran Canary Island for the Atlantic crossing to St Lucia in the Caribbean. She then cruised St Lucia and Martinique until leaving on a fast trip north through the Caribbean, the Virgins, and the Bahamas, arriving in Florida in April of 1988. In September of the same year, Sandettie was trucked to San Francisco Bay and relaunched in the same month.
In the late 1980's, there was a change of ownership and destination with Sandettie's new home port being Seattle and cruising from Alaska to Mexico, where she is based now with her current owner who has brought her back to better than original condition.
